Located just 12 km (ca. 7.5 miles) southeast of central Rome and within the borders of the Greater Ring Road (GRA), a motorway network that surrounds the city and links to the rest of the country, Ciampino airport is one of Italy's most popular airports.

There are four passenger terminals with an information desk and plenty of amenities and services in each building. Throughout the arrivals areas and the terminals Rome Ciampino Airport arrivals will find ATM's for their cash requirements and for changing currency and other money matters there’s also a branch of Banca di Roma in one of the terminals.

Arrivals at Rome Ciampino Airport have a variety of onward travel options open to them, either by connecting flights with Wizz Air or Ryanair, the only two airlines operating out of this airport or via taxi, bus, train or hire car.

The latest flight routes available from spring 2012 are via Ryanair to Chania, Kos and Budapest, but there are also onward connections to Germany, Poland, the United Kingdom and France via both airlines.

Ciampino Arrivals will also find a large number of shops at the four terminals as well as Duty Free shopping upon their departure. Accessories and fashion, fragrances and beauty, electronics and entertainment, gifts and souvenirs, fine food, books, magazines and tobaccos are all available at the terminals.

With disabled passengers in mind, the historic airport has refurbished all public areas to make the terminals barrier-free.

Arriving families with young children are provided with nurseries at all arrivals and departure zones, where staff are at hand to help with young travelers. For the small and the larger appetite there are numerous cafes, restaurants and snack bars, pizza and bakeries, Italian street food outlets and wine bars. For arrivals with a sweet tooth the airport even provides ice cream and pastry shops!

Arrivals will find the taxi rank just outside the arrivals halls. Rates for trips into central Rome and other city destinations are fixed to avoid disputes over pricing. It is, however, recommended that passengers ensure the driver switches on the taximeter at the start of the journey. An average trip into the center of Rome will cost between EUR 35.00 to EUR 40.00 one way.

Overnight accommodation for arrivals is provided via Hotel Villa Giulia, which is within a 3 km distance of the terminal buildings. The hotel is within a 300 meter walk from the local Ciampino train station which connect the airport with Rome's main line train station.

Arrivals preferring to travel by airport bus will find a connection travels directly to Ciampino train station at a fare of EUR 1.00 per person travelling one way. Other bus services offer travel directly to the main train station in Rome, but don’t stop at the little metro station at Ciampino.

The COTRAL/Schiaffina buses leave every 15 minutes for the Anagnina stop of Metro Line A. Arrivals taking Terravision Ltd, Schiaffini or the official BusShuttle operated buses will take around 40 minutes to reach Roma Termini, which is the main train station that links Rome with the rest of Italy and Europe.

Passengers will also find several car rental providers based at the airport. Among the affordable car rental suppliers with a desk at the airport are: Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Locauto Rent, Maggiore, Sixt and Thrifty. Their car rental offices can be found in Via Mameli, which is near the entrance of the airport, in close proximity to car parking area P8. The airport provides a free of charge shuttle bus from the departure terminal to this car park and the car rental companies.

Arrivals seeking transfer to Rome's other airport, Leonardi da Vinci, should look out for the car hire services of NCC, which operate blue or grey cars. These are not the regular taxi services available for the taxi rank, but strictly for airport transfer passengers (tel +39 06 793 40812).
