Rome Ciampino International Airport Train Transfers

Rome Ciampino Airport trains travel from Ciampino Città, which is the nearest train station. A bus service links the airport terminals with the local Ciampino train station and the journey takes just 5 minutes to complete.

A ticket for the bus to the train station costs EUR 1.00 per person and the bus leaves every 30 minutes.

From Rome passengers can also take the metro train system that leaves Rome Termini train station for Ciampino Città. The Ciampino Airport trains take only 15 minutes by metro line. At Rome Termini station there are also connections to various underground lines covering central Rome and other city destinations outside the Aurelian Walls.

From Rome Termini it is also possible to travel via a shuttle express train to Rome's Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino Airport. The train service starts at 5.52 am and continues at 22 and 52 minute intervals throughout the day. The service finishes at 10.52 pm every night. From Fiumicino Airport the train leaves at 6.38 am and final departure is at 11.38 pm. The cost for a single journey is around EUR 14.00 and the journey time is ca. 31 minutes. The Leonardo Express leaves Termini station from platform 24.

There are automatic ticket machines and main ticket windows, where tickets can be purchased. It is also possible to buy tickets at the newsagents/tobacconists in the foyer of Rome Termini station. Before boarding a train, passengers must validate their ticket by using machines that are located near the track. These machines are called obliteratrici.

For longer train journeys from Termini it is best to pre-book online via www.trenitalia.com, where time tables and other passenger information can also be obtained. There are a number of high speed train links on offer, which allow for super fast onward travel.

The Frecciarossa high speed trains link the cities Turin, Milan, Bologna, Rome, Naples and Salerno. Trains can reach speeds of up to 360 km per hour and all trains on this line are red to stand out. The Frecciabianca trains are white and cover Milan, Venice, Udine e Trieste, Genoa and Rome. They also travel down to Bari, Lecce on the regular train track network. Not quite as fast as their red cousins, these trains reach speeds of up to 200 km per hour.

Frecciargento trains are silver and reach travel speeds of up to 250 km per hour. They link Rome with the cities of Venice, Verona, Bari/Lecce and Lamezia Terme in Reggio Calabria, where passengers have another airport at their disposal. Intercity trains from Rome Termini station link Italy's major cities and towns.

For passengers arriving late in the evening and taking either trains from Ciampino Airport station or buses travelling directly to Rome Termini, there are also night trains that leave for medium to long-distance journeys in Italy. Eurostar services are also available for Rome Termini, connecting Rome with Ancona, Genoa, Lamezia Terme, Reggio Calabria, Perugia, Ravenna, Rimini and Taranto. International train connections cover Austria, Belgrado, Budapest in Hungary, Germany, France, Spain, Lubiana and destinations in Switzerland.

Naturally, local train services for the Lazia region are also available from Rome Termini. Smoking is not permitted on these trains or on trains travelling from Ciampino. Most of these trains carry only 2nd class carriages. Some of the more modern trains consist of double-decker carriages.
